Chocolate cake

I have been looking online for chocolate BUN recipe, not muffins, not cup cakes, just a plain English, Scottish, Welsh or even Irish BUN recipe. And what does the web come up with. Simple loads of cup cakes or muffins covered with sugary frosting. We Brits call bun or cake coverings icing, we do not harp on about Welsh descent, even if we are do come from a long line of traditional Welshies, recently crossed with English of course. I love you Americans, but do not patronise us Brits and claim that you were the first who wrote down a recipe, even though it has been made in the UK for hundreds of years. Moan over. No offence intended, hope none is taken.

Topical Tuesday :: #22 Health Care

Topic :: #22 Health Care

Before we moved to Spain, I watched a programme on television about a couple who had emigrated to France. The woman developed breast cancer, went to her doctor and found herself admitted to hospital the following day when the tumour was removed. To cut a long story short, France has a healthcare system where the more serious illnesses are treated free, I think it was 100. I seem to remember that healthcare insurance had to be purchased for the none life threatening illnesses. Perhaps this is the way to go for those healthcare systems that have financial problems, ie Spain.

Summer Storms

I am so excited, late summer storms have started at last, rumbling of thunder in the distance and storm clouds gathering. Weather forcasts for Spain are showing as cloud, rain, storms. Fun, at least for me.

Dreams

I had a dream last night about my late father and it reminded me of the stories he told me as a child. My favourite was about Tom Thumb, he said that Tom lived in the Bluebell woods on Birkwood Road, just over the river. For years I believed the story and often went into the woods to see if I could find him, never did of course.

In my dream Dad had come to collect me, he said it was my time and he was taking me on to my new home. That I would love the home and be happy throughout eternity. I have not been too happy since Dad died, and have been unable to mourn him, not saying there havent been happy times, have occasionally.

Just after Dad died I had a dream that I died, Dad was sitting by my bed and told me to be strong, that it was not my time and I had to go back. My job wasnt finished and there was important things I had to do. Goodness knows what. While I was having this dream my daughter came into the bedroom and tried to wake me, she said I wasnt breathing, think I was, just quietly. At times when I was first diagnosed with asthma, I did wake up in the night after gasping quite loudly, my doctor explained why, but for the life of me I cannot remember the medical term.

Perdidos

Yet another of my recipes has been pinched, this time by a Spanish TV chef. I wouldn’t mind, but again another Chef has passed my work off as their own. Although I am certain someome else could easily have come up with a Macaroni Cheese Omelette, the ingredients were exactly the same as mine. Did not look as good though, browned to death!

Would you believe it, a Brit in Spain has brought a load of flour and yeast over from the UK to make his own bread using a bread maker. His reason, Spanish bread doesn’t keep, well their sliced does. Perhaps he should look around Carrefour as they sell both yeast and flour, though I am sure his reasoning is that British is Best.

The title of the post, Lost to us Brits. Just finished watching one series, now awaiting the next which is on Quatro from sometime in October. So excited! Ta Ta for Now.

I’m back

Well, after a few months without a computer and being unable to access the Internet, I am now back online and so excited. Little things please little minds.

Still here, still well and now … looking forward to going back to the United Kingdom in 2010. Not sure what went wrong here, but my love for all things Spanish has taken a dive. Not sure whether I will ever return to Spain, only time will tell. If I do come back it will only be for a holiday.

I expected my daughter to stay but it seems she wants to return. Why, well I am not sure right now but will figure it out.

Moan of the day … a family member is a chef and guess what … he has taken my recipe for Xmas cake which I made up myself, made one change and passed it off as his own. Then said “I am a professional chef, her cake cannot be better than mine”. Cakes aside, his tomato soup at Christmas had no taste, totally bland and uninteresting.

TTFN.
